Clinically Proven Double Chin Removal
These double chin dissolving injections involve the injection of a prescription-only medication that has been recently approved for use in Australia. This medication has been widely and successfully used in the USA since the FDA approved its use in April 2015. In order to gain approval, the manufacturers have conducted two randomised phase 3 multi-centre, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trials. 1,022 patients with moderate to severe sub-mental fat received up to 6 treatments with this prescription medication no less than 1 month apart. Long-term follow up have confirmed results last for at least 4 years.

A double chin can be frustrating because it can make people look older or heavier or unhealthier than they actually are. Treatment is appropriate for men and women over the age of 18 who are in good health and have realistic expectations about what the treatment might be able to achieve.
How does it work (fat dissolving injections)?
The fat dissolving injections that we are using is a prescription only medication based on a naturally occurring molecule similar to molecules made in the bile that the body uses to help with dietary fat breakdown and absorption. When this medication is carefully injected into the correct locations under the chin (using the doses and protocols that have been tested in clinical trials), the fat cells in these locations are damaged in such a way that they breakdown and are unable to grow back. There is a period of swelling and tenderness while the body’s immune cells take away the damaged fat and repair the area. A minimum of two separate treatments are required (up to a maximum of 6 total treatments) approximately 6 weeks apart from each other. Visible results can be seen after 2 to 4 treatments. More treatments are likely to help achieve better results. Patients with more fat will probably need more treatments. Results are maintained for at least 4 years. How should I prepare for the Double Chin Injection treatment?
You do not need to prepare excessively for your treatment. We recommend limiting alcohol and anti-inflammatory medication in order to aid a smooth recovery following treatment. If you work in a job where you need to see people or clients, we do advise on booking towards the end of the week so you can take time over the weekend whilst the more significant swelling subsides.
Your experience at MIRA Clinic requires a consultation with our treating doctor, before you are able to have the treatment. During the consultation we will determine whether or not you are a good candidate before booking the procedure. During this consultation we will also discuss the likely results and possible side effects and show you images of the type of swelling to be expected. If you are travelling a long distance and particularly wish to proceed to treatment on the same day, please contact us beforehand so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

What happens during treatment?
You will have a chance to go over any questions you may have remaining after your initial consultation. We will discuss with you the pros and cons of the various options to reduce the discomfort such as ice, topical anaesthetic or local anaesthetic. In nearly all cases, the most preferred option is to inject local anaesthetic into the area immediately before the treatment. Once the area is nice and numb, our practitioner will then perform evenly spaced injections of the fat dissolving medication over the site to be treated. The preparation for the treatment should take approximately 15 minutes. The injections themselves only take a few minutes.
What can I expect immediately after treatment?
Following treatment you will be given post-care instructions. It is normal to leave the clinic with significant swelling and further swelling may occur. The swelling is a sign that the treatment is working. You can also apply an ice-pack for 5 minutes at a time to assist in reducing swelling, itching, bruising and/or redness to the area. However, our experience has been that it is best to minimise the use of ice. The final result is dependent upon the inflammation from the treatment and the body’s response to the inflammation helps the fat to clear away and the skin to tighten. Some patients may also feel the area is tender or becomes numb immediately after the injections and sometimes lasts weeks.
How many double chin injections do I need?
Depending on the amount of fat present in your double chin area, you will require more than one session. The more fat you have to destroy, the more treatments are recommended in order to see results. Sessions are spaced at approximately 6 weeks apart. Our MIRA Clinic team will be able to advise you on the best course of action once you attend a consultation.
Is there any downtime after the Double Chin dissolving injections?
It does not demand mandatory downtime. In fact, you can return to most daily activities following a treatment. Keep in mind however that you are likely to experience significant swelling which you may not want others to see. Bruising is not expected but is possible. We don’t recommend performing strenuous exercise for a few days following treatment to assist with healing.

How soon until I see results?
Over the following days after your injections you will experience significant swelling to the area, however after a few days this should subside to only minor swelling. Over the next 3-4 weeks you will still see minor swelling of your ‘double chin’ area, which is a completely normal reaction to the injections. Around 4 to 6 weeks after the injections the swelling will have subsided and it is the ideal time for your subsequent treatment.

Am I a good candidate for Double Chin dissolving injections?
If you have fat deposits under your chin area or upper neck, you may be a suitable candidate for these Double Chin dissolving injections. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or suffer from heart and liver problems we do not recommend this treatment. This Double Chin dissolving treatment usually causes the skin to retract and hug your neckline, however, if you have lost weight and are suffering from loose skin underneath the chin (without much fatty tissue), we can recommend an alternative treatment for you as this injection treatment is not designed for the treatment of loose skin.
