02 Oct Lip Flip or Lip Filler – Which Option Produces Better Results?
Full, youthful lips never go out of style, which is why lip plumping treatments are still as popular as they’ve ever been.
Along with achieving fuller lips, patients also consider lip plumping because they have a gummy smile, or their upper lip disappears when they smile.
There are two options available to those who want to enhance their lips, namely lip filler and a lip flip.
These treatment options are not one and the same though – this is what you need to know.
What is a Lip Flip?
There is a muscle that goes around the lips that helps push them together and keep your mouth closed. These muscles are also responsible for helping you talk, whistle and scoop food off a spoon.
During a lip flip, anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax the muscle in the top lip. Instead of pushing the lip down though, the injections flip the lip outward, creating a pout.
One advantage of a lip flip is that it increases the height of your lips on show. As for the disadvantages, unfortunately, there are several. Lip flip results won’t usually last longer than 4 – 6 weeks and the injections can make it more difficult to pronounce certain words and eat with a spoon.
What’s more, the brain adapts to the effects of the lip flip, which means a bigger dose is usually required for each subsequent appointment.
Why We Prefer Lip Fillers
At MIRA Clinic, we prefer dermal fillers to a lip flip for more than one reason.
Not only do lip flip results only last about a month but patients tend to lose control of their upper lip too – an effect that many people admit to never wanting to experience again.
Lip fillers, on the other hand, are designed to enhance the size of your lips without paralysing the upper lip. With a bigger upper lip, your mouth looks fuller and it reduces a gummy smile. Lip filler costs more than a lip flip, but the results can last anywhere from 6 – 12 months. The biggest benefit is that lip functionality remains intact.
The actual lip filler and lip flip procedures are very similar, it’s simply the type of medication in the injections that differ.
To make the lip filler treatment comfortable clients can choose either numbing injections or to use numbing cream. Once the lips are numb, a series of lip filler injections are used to add volume. There may be some slight swelling and tenderness after your appointment, but nothing that is too severe that you should be concerned.
When administered by a trained medical professional, the results from lip fillers can enhance your lip in a way that compliments your face aesthetically whilst maintaining your lips function and purpose. This all comes down to choosing the right lip filler product and using the right injection technique, to result in a smother, natural looking lip. At MIRA Clinic we are experts at producing natural looking results that we can tailor according to the preference of each client.
Lip Filler starts from $300 per 1/2 ml at both MIRA Clinic Joondalup and MIRA Clinic West Perth.
